William L. Cheney, Jr.
June 9, 1958 – June 16, 2026
William Lendsay Cheney, Jr., entered into eternal rest on June 16, 2026, at the age of 68 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, deacon and friend. William lived a life defined by faith, love, humility and service to others.
William was born on June 9, 1958, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to the late Darlene and William Lendsay Cheney, Sr. He attended Alexandria Senior High School and later built a respected career as a machinist with Corrosion Materials, where he dedicated 27 years of faithful service. His strong work ethic, integrity and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
On August 22, 1981, William married the love of his life, Dale Cheney, in Palmetto, Louisiana. Together they built a loving home and shared nearly 45 years of marriage, creating a legacy of faith, family and unwavering devotion.
A man of deep faith, William served as a Deacon at Glen Oaks Baptist Church. He was a pillar of strength within his church family and was known for his gentle spirit, wise counsel and willingness to lend a helping hand. His life reflected the values he cherished—service, compassion, his love for God and others.
William found his greatest joy in his family. He was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather who treasured every moment spent with those he loved. His presence brought comfort, laughter, wisdom and stability to generations of family members who will forever cherish his memory.
William was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Darlene and William Cheney, Sr., and his daughter, Shanetta Compton.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Dale Cheney; daughter, Shondreka Compton; sons, Jarvis Cheney and William “TC” Cheney III; bonus son, Rodney Jones (Asya); sister, Angela Cheney; brothers, Curtis Cheney (Pam), Michael Cheney and Everette Cheney (Lashonda); granddaughters, Nakyra, Ja’Keria, Da’Vianna, Treazure and Kayla; grandsons, David, Ja’Marian, Nickalas, Travon and Kayden; great-grandson, Weston William; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family and dear friends.
William’s legacy will live on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom and unwavering love. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is at peace and reunited with those who have gone before him.
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
