Obituary

Tommie Lee Weathersby was born on April 7, 1939, to his loving parents, Mable Lea and William Weathersby Sr. He was the third child in a vibrant household, which included three sons and five daughters, all of whom shared a close-knit bond throughout their upbringing.

From a young age, Tommie professed his love for Christ and became an active member of the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. His deep faith was evident in his commitment to the church, where he served as a devoted deacon and later became the esteemed chairman of the Deacon Board under the leadership of Rev. S.J. Dickey, Bishop Robert Thompson, Rev. Willie Harrell, and Bishop Lawrence Oliver Hall.

In 1958, Tommie graduated from Liberty Rosenwald High School in Amite County, marking the beginning of his journey into adulthood and his future endeavors.

Tommie began his professional career working in Louisiana as an operator. He later moved back to Mississippi and started working with Georgia Pacific as a machine operator, where he devoted many years of hard work and dedication, ultimately retiring from the company. Tommie also worked in Amite County as a school bus driver, a position he held for five years, enjoying the interactions with students and the community. Tommie had a profound love for the outdoors and spent countless hours tending to his cattle farm, which gave him joy and peace.

Tommie's personal life was marked by love and partnership. He was married to Bobbye Jean Weathersby for an impressive 48 years until her passing. Their union was blessed with two children: a son, Felton, and a daughter, Kay Francis, who were the pride and joy of his life. Following Bobbye's death, Tommie was fortunate to find love again with Catherine Bateaste Weathersby. They shared eleven wonderful years together until her passing as well.

Tommie’s love for God was evident in his spirit of service, compassion, and unwavering faithfulness, which reached beyond boundaries. He was dedicated to serving his family, friends, and community with a selflessness that often saw him putting others before himself. As a devoted husband, father, and friend, he left a lasting impact on the lives of many.

Tommie is cherished in memory by his two sons: Tommie Lee Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, and Felton Weathersby of Liberty, MS, as well as his loving daughter, Kay Frances, who also resides in Liberty, MS. He is survived by his beloved grandson, Felton Jr., and a Godson, Calvin Thompson, both of Liberty, MS. Additionally, Tommie is remembered fondly by his brother, William (Gladys) Weathersby of Kenner, LA, and his four sisters: Annette Weathersby of Liberty, MS; JueNell Joseph of Kenner, LA; Ineze (Mornia) Taplin of Pontiac, MI; and Maude Maple of Houston, TX.

Tommie was also surrounded by a supportive extended family that includes sister-in-laws Marv Thompson and Alberta (George), both of McComb, MS; Lynn (Reginald) Mitchell of Mobile, AL; and Bettie Bateaste (Anthony) Parker of Terry, MS. His brothers-in-law, James (Vernell) Bateaste of Beaumont, TX; Nick (Wanda) Bateaste of D’Iberville, MS; and Lester Bateaste of Biloxi, MS, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will forever cherish his legacy and the love he shared with them throughout his life.
