Into each of our lives some rain must fall. Rain fell in our lives on August 13, 2026. There was no warning, we had no time to run for cover. The angel of Death quietly slipped into Our Lady of The Lake and touched a loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend and Grandpa.

Rufus Gilmore was born to the late Nancy Duncan and Virgin Gilmore on September 3, 1948 in St. Francisville, Louisiana.

He attended John S. Dawson High School in St. Francisville, LA. In his later years he worked for Crown Zellerbach in St. Francisville for many years until his retirement.

Mourning his departure and cherishing his love: Joyce L. Gilmore of Baker, La; Deadra (Cedric) Moore of Zachary, La; Brian (Kia) Gilmore of Baton Rouge, La; two sisters, Edith Duncan of Baton Rouge, LA and Margaret Matthews of Zachary, La; two brothers, Willie (Brenda) Sullivan, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA and Nolan Sullivan of St. Francisville, LA; two grandsons, Dedric Moore and Daylon Moore both of Zachary, La; four great grandsons, Khristian Moore, Dominic Moore, Kieshawn Mathis and Zion Mathis; two Godchildren, Cherlynn Williams of Baton Rouge, La and Trenton Daughrity of West Palm Beach, Fl and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Those gone before to welcome Rufus Gilmore with open arms; his parents, Nancy Duncan and Virgin Gilmore; maternal grandparents, Ben and Lula Duncan; paternal grandparents; three sisters, Carolyn Duncan, Helen Duncan and Mary Duncan; four brothers, James Duncan, Curly Sullivan, Linton Sullivan and Roosevelt Gilmore; five uncles, Edward, Ben, Nathan, Philander and Alfred Duncan; four aunts, Margaret Minor, Cecile and Rosa Lee Duncan, Callie Veal; one niece, Lula B. Duncan.
