Obituary for Peggy JoAn James

Peggy JoAn James, born December 28, 1934, passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 91. She lived a long and meaningful life defined by love, strength and devotion to her family.

Peggy was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit and unwavering care for those around her. She carried herself with quiet strength and grace, offering warmth and wisdom to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to perseverance, compassion, and deep family bonds.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby James; her daughter, JoBeth James Walley; and her son, Timothy Landon James.

She is survived by her children: daughter Debra Fowler; son Robby James and his wife Monica; daughter Sandra Brauer and her husband Joseph; and her son-in-law, Vince Walley.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jodi Bardwell; Charles Holifield Jr. (Tracy); Heather Hopkins; Tosha Hudson; Stephanie Bruno (David); Jennifer Crockett (Todd); Chris Phonpituck (Raleigh); Tony Phonpituck; Hannah Jones (Micah); Drew Hayes (Melody); and Luke Hayes.

Peggy’s legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Bralie Bardwell, Hunter Bardwell, Beau Bardwell, Brodie Bardwell, William Bruno, Collier Crockett, Cora Crockett, Tyler Hopkins (Hailey), Mailey Hopkins, Dalton Hudson (Samantha), Ema Hudson, Cade Holifield, and Cole Holifield.

She is further survived by her great-great-grandchildren: Everlee Hopkins, Toxey Hopkins, Elizabeth Hudson, Myles Hudson, Collins Jones, Dolly Hayes, and Quinn Phonpituck.

Peggy JoAn James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her memory will live on through the generations she so dearly loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Old Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 25890 LA-442, Independence, LA. Service will begin promptly at 12:00 noon.
