Keronica Hill

January 23, 1958 — July 3, 2025

Keronica “Katie” James Hill was born on January 23, 1958, to Essie Lee James and Herbert Pace in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She lived there with her family and was often seen hanging with her friends and cousins around the community. Katie entered foster care at a young age and lived with the Robinson family in Hammond, Louisiana for a number of years and attended St. James AME Church. She also briefly lived with Mrs. Bernice Young in Independence, Louisiana where she graduated from what was formerly known as Independence Girls’ High School and attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. She eventually joined Greater Love Church of God in Christ, and it remained her church home until she passed. Katie was united in holy matrimony to Alex Whittington Hill in July of 1977. Although their marriage ended in divorce, they remained lifelong friends.

Katie had worked her entire life in different careers and is fondly remembered by her former coworkers. Memorably, she worked in the housing community formerly known as Daggs-Reid Apartments in Hammond, Louisiana for many years. Most recently, she worked for Tangipahoa Parish Government.

Katie’s interests and hobbies included anything that allowed her to spend time with her family. She and her daughter, Angela, shared a love of classic movies and Anita Baker music. A game of Spades could last for hours at Katie’s house, and she often had to keep an eye on her boys, Trell and Voris. She was an avid sports fan, and time was often spent around sports related activities, such as watching women’s softball with her daughter, Londay, or talking about the NBA draft with her son, Voris. She would sometimes travel with her son, Trell, to see the Saints play despite being a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. She could be seen on the sidelines or in the stands cheering on her grandchildren at their games. In her down time, she enjoyed reading, a good fill-in puzzle, or napping with her “Babygirl”, Meyocha. They were also travel buddies when the family went on their annual vacation.

Katie James Hill departed this life on July 3, 2025. She was preceded in death by loved ones including her parents, Essie Lee James and Herbert Pace, her grandmother, Annie Bell Jacobs James Paige; her brother, Carl Pace; and two beloved aunts, Ola Mae Flot and Vera Lee Carson, who played a special role in raising her while she lived in Bogalusa. She was also preceded in death by a surrogate brother, John Wilkinson.

Katie leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Angela James (Steven Dorsey), Alex “Trell” (Latoya)Hill, Tuvoris “Shotime” Hill (Keaira Alexander), Shalanda “Londay” Hill (Lashermel “Rody” Reed), Sr.), and Meyocha Hill. She leaves over twenty grandchildren: Christopher Flood, Kenyarie Hill, Alexis Hill, De’arrius Pitts, Alex Hill Jr., Ayden Hill, Ashanti Ussin, Tuvoria Hill, Keyara Owen, Nygeria Hill, Jaylon Fornett, Tamora Hill, London Hill, Kaitlyn Hill, Kalani Hill, Darrell Vaughn, Jr., Darrius Vaughn, Lashermel ”RJ” Reed, Jr., Lea Reed, Gerard “Cordell” Lloyd, Jr., Joshua Hill, and Jacob Hill along with eleven great grandchildren. Later in life, Katie reunited with members of her birth family, and they mourn her passing as well. They include her brother Eugene Pace and cousins Vera (Remy) Williams, Inez Self, Alfreda Williams, Felisha Blackwell, and Daron Lee “Popeye” Flot. Her surrogate family includes her daughters Loretta “Renee” Mack, Lucretia “Baldy” Williams, and Tashika “Tiny” Brumfield. She also leaves her surrogate sons: Derrick Wilson, Timothy White, Terrance Jackson, Henry McGee, Johnny Buggage, and Travis Bell to mourn her. She will also be cherished by her surrogate mom, Louise Tyler and siblings: Beneva Winfield, Doris “Linda” Wilkinson, Steven (Stephanie) Tyler, Lashanta (Samuel) Conerly, and godson, Quindon Hooks. Katie will be united at the Rainbow Bridge with her beloved dogs, Lady, Caramel, Blue, and Bear.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. ~Revelation 14:13 KJV~
