“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in
green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul…”
— Psalm 23:1–3 (KJV)
Joseph Brown was born on June 25, 1949, to the late Isabella Winn and William Brown, Sr. in Scotlandville, East Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
At an early age, Joseph was baptized and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was of the Baptist faith and was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Joseph was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Christine Brown, on October 16, 1975. Their beautiful union was blessed with seven children, forming a legacy rooted in love, strength, and devotion to family.
He was a dedicated employee of the East Baton Rouge School Board, where he faithfully served as a Maintenance Man for thirty years until his retirement in 2004. His work ethic, reliability, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In his leisure time, Joseph found joy in landscaping, socializing, and most of all, spending cherished moments with his family. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and a sense of togetherness that will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabella Winn and William Brown, Sr.; one daughter, Dameka Brown Latise; one son, Jeremy Joseph Brown; five brothers, Jessie Butler, Dalton Brown, Sr., William Brown, Sr., Lloyd Brown, Sr., and Charles Brown, Sr.; and four sisters, Bernice Butler, Agnes Breckinridge, Mary Lee Foster, and Martha Batiste.
Joseph leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving and devoted wife, Christine Brown; six daughters, Ann Pearson, Catena Brown Cassidy, Amy Brown, Denita Brown, Cheneka Brown, and Angel Brown; one sister, Daisy Provost; thirteen grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Joseph’s life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication. His gentle spirit, unwavering commitment to his family, and the values he instilled will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him. While he may be absent from our sight, his memory will forever remain in our hearts—guiding, comforting, and reminding us that love never fades.
