Jeffery Steve
Hemphill
January 12, 1959 – January 29, 2026
Jeffery Steven Hemphill, affectionately known to many as "Pet Jeff" finished his final chapter and gained the keys to his mansion in heaven on January 29, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana. He was 67 years old.
Born on January 12, 1959, in Waukegan, Illinois-- While on vacation he made his arrival. Jeff spent all his childhood and early adult years in Amite, Louisiana. At the tender age of 21, he met, fell in love and married his bride (of 45 yrs), Judith Hutson Hemphill together they started a family and moved from Amite to Hammond.
Jeff was a master of his craft. As a custodian, he was a "floor magician" who took immense pride in his work; he wasn’t satisfied until the floors he buffed and polished looked like clean glass. He enjoyed playing basketball, four wheeler riding, fishing, hunting and finding treasures in trash. Following his retirement from the Hammond Health Unit, Jeff found joy in the more simpler things: sitting outside on the swing, the warmth of a fire, the smell of fresh-cut grass, riding down back roads to go see who was at home, and talk to anyone that answered his call that day and boy did he love to keep you on the phone.
He was the definition of kindhearted and gentle, a man who would give the shirt off his back without a second thought. He was also a prankster who loved to be "playfully annoying" and was infamous for his "Barking Spiders" (if you know, you know). His laugh was truly infectious; above all his earthly passions, Jeff loved his family, his grandbabies, his church and church family, and his friends, but most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with all his heart and was ready to go see him when the angels came to update his new change of address in the sky.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Hugh Hemphill Sr. and Ruby Maeline Burton Hemphill; his oldest brother, Frank (Frankie) Hemphill Jr.; his daughter, Penny Hemphill Perrin; his grand-dog, Bruiser Bigglesworth, Grand Parents and Great Grand Parents.
He is survived by his spouse, Judith Hutson Hemphill; his daughter, Gennie Hemphill Walzer; and his grandchildren, Charles (Trey) Floyd Jr., Terry (Jacob) Perrin Jr., Gracie Ann Perrin, and Hadly Rayne Walzer. Also his 3 self proclaimed bonuses, Kyle Punch, Dickie Strahan, & Billy Hibley, as well as his furry grand-dog, Bo Duke.
He leaves behind his siblings: Carol Tullos (Terry), Cindy Cuti (David), and Danny Hemphill (Kristen), all of Amite, LA.
He will be deeply loved, missed, and remembered by all those who cared for him, made memories with him, and look forward to the day they see him again.
