James Paul “Jimmy” Berteau, Jr.

James Paul “Jimmy” Berteau, Jr., a dedicated father, passed away in the early morning of September 24, 2023, age 60, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, Louisiana after an aggressive liver cancer diagnosis. He was a lifelong Christian and resident of Tangipahoa Parish. His pride and joy was his son, Hunter James Berteau. Jimmy also, adored his stepdaughters, Rebecca Ford and Ashley Ford. He was a jack of many trades and talents but worked as a Certified Electrician. Jimmy's journey as a Certified Electrician spanned several years, during which he showcased exceptional skill and professionalism in his work. His expertise in the field earned him great respect among colleagues and clients alike.

Jimmy was born on May 26, 1963, at Seventh Ward Hospital in Hammond, Louisiana to the late Marie Hebert Berteau Hudspeth and James Paul Berteau, Sr.

Outside of work, Jimmy found joy in simple pleasures. He loved hunting and being in the woods from an early age, especially after he bagged his first rabbit with the help of his beloved Momma. He had an infectious smile and a quirky sense of humor that brought laughter to those fortunate enough to know him well. 

Jimmy is survived by his beloved Son, Hunter Berteau; Stepdaughters, Rebecca Ford and Ashley Ford; Father, James Paul Berteau, Sr.; Sisters, Arlene Raxsdale and Sandra St. Romain; Brother, Murphy Berteau (Shernel); Niece and Nephew, Savanah Edwards and Seth St. Romain (Sandra); Niece, Jillian Raxsdale (Arlene), Niece and Nephew, Nia Berteau and Christian Berteau (Murphy) and finally great niece, Giselle Raxsdale-Harrington (Jillian). Jimmy is also survived by Maternal Aunts, Dorothy Robertson and Brenda Dominguez; and Paternal Aunts, Audrey Recile and Diane “DeeDee” Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Marie Hebert Hudspeth, Hunter’s Mother and Partner, Stacey Ricker and his wife, Melissa Hollie Berteau. 

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Jimmy, cherishing his memory and the everlasting impact he has had on our lives. May he rest in peace.

Graveside Burial Services for James “Jimmy” Berteau, Jr. of Ponchatoula, Louisiana will be held on Saturay, October 7, 2023, at 10:30AM at the Ponchatoula Cemetery US-51 Business in the Murphy Hebert Plot. The officiant will be Keith Davis. Family and friends will be received at graveside.
