Jamar Demond Phillips

Jamar D. Phillips, was born on August 20, 1985 to the late Sheritta Renae Phillips and Flentoil Hawkins and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was baptized at an early age and married to the lovely Jameela A. Phillips.

Jamar worked for Volunteers of America where he learned many skills and became a master at his craft. He was very well known by many and served in the Brotherhood of Hezekiah Lodge #726 and was a Worthy Patron of Daughters of Zion #1246.

Jamar was known and affectionately called by his family and friends “Smurf”

On Thursday, February 19, 2026, Jamar departed his earthly life at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by both parents, Sheritta R. Phillips and Flentoil Hawkins; two grandmothers, Lillie Mae Phillips and Marguite Davis Johnson; three grandfathers, Phillip Parker, Jr., Joe Willie Johnson, Will Johnson; one great grandmother, Emma Lee Phillips; three aunts, Betty Johnson, Bertha Johnson, Deborah Johnson; four uncles, Ray Anthony Phillips, Joe Hawkins, Eddie Johnson and Billy Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his wife, Jameela A. Phillips; three children, Darmakiss Buckley, Jachorous Buckley and Jashauna Phillips; two Godchildren, Jakel and Jakyia Winston; one sister, Neomosha Phillips Hines (Christopher Hines); two brothers, Quantez A. Phillips (Selena) and Darren McClendon; one Godbrother, Brandon Hamilton; one Godsister, Sierra Wallace; four nieces, De’Reail Phillips, Honesti Hines, Briana Phillips and Kiara Phillips; five nephews, Derek Smith, Jr., Duane Phillips, Christian Hines, Quantez Phillips, Jr. and Evan Phillips; one step nephew, Tayvien Pratt; two step nieces, Tamirra Pratt and Taniah Pratt; nine aunts, Rosalie Phillips, Agnes Spears, Jeari Rodrique, Carrie Williams, Karen Patin, Johnella Boyd, Margarita Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson and Fannie Davis; one uncle, David Johnson and a host of cousins, other family and friends.
