Gregory “Terrell” Lee, affectionately called “Rell” was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on July 12, 1994. Second born to his mother Danita Lee. Terrell who left us far too soon at the age of 30 was a son, a brother, a cousin, and a friend to many. His presence in our lives was like a ray of sunshine—always bright, always uplifting, and always with a smile that could light up any room.
Terrell was truly blessed to have had the love of two fathers throughout his life. While he is preceded in death by his father Gregory Chaney, who played an irreplaceable role in his life. He is survived by his biological father, Huey “Lee Lee” Lavergne, Jr. No matter the role they played, the love he felt for both was immeasurable, and each will always hold a special place in his heart.
Terrell accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at The First Little Rock Baptist Church by Pastor Steven Beckham. He was educated in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
“Terrell” had a heart way bigger than his personality. As a child, he was full of energy, always active but very humble in spirit. He had a love for sports and excelled in basketball. He spent countless afternoons playing with friends and teammates. It wasn’t just about the game for him, though; it was about the joy and friendships that came with it, and that was how he approached life.
Terrell was one of three brothers, and in their bond, he stood out not only as the one with the infectious smile but also for his deep connection with his family. The closeness he shared with his mother was particularly special. From the time he was a small child, he had a unique comfort in sucking his thumb and playing with her ear—simple, loving acts that symbolized the tenderness and affection he felt for her. His mother and him shared a bond that was beyond words; there was something truly beautiful about the way he would find peace and comfort in those small moments of connection.
Terrell was also known for his genuine kindness.Though his time with us was far too short, the memories he leaves behind are a testament to the kind of person he was—a loving son, a loyal brother, a cherished cousin, and a friend who brightened the darkest of days. He taught us all the power of a genuine smile, and the importance of staying true to yourself. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. His love for family, both immediate and extended, was unwavering and shaped so much of who he was. His absence leaves a void that can never truly be filled.
Terrell is survived by his loving mother, Danita Lee, brothers Devontae and Dquan Lee,a nephew Kyrin Carpenter, special niece Lillie Rose Lee, his father Huey Lavergne,Jr. (Latoya), his siblings, Breanna Cook, Timara & Tyree Thompson, Kiante Landry, A’ra Lavergne, Huey Lavergne III and Harley Lavergne, grandmothers Betty Lee, Cynthia Chaney and Linda Carter, godmother Tashika Risin Scott, a cousin with whom he shared a brotherly bond Lamarcus Lee and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins whom he loved as brothers and sisters and countless other family members and friends who were touched by his warmth and infectious spirit.
He was preceded in death by his father Gregory Chaney, grandfathers Horace Lee,Sr. and Huey Lavergne, Sr., uncles Horace and Brian Lee and Darryl Chaney, cousin Brysean Cornelius
