Ellis “June” Porter Jr. departed this life on Monday, October 13, 2025, at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Ellis “June” Porter Jr. was born on November 10, 1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the eldest of ten children born to the union of Ellis Porter Sr. and Irma Jean (Daniaels) Porter. He was baptized at an early age at Rising Star Baptist Church.
June was just eleven years old when his father passed away. As the eldest, he became the patriarch of the “Porter Clan.” While their mother worked, he and his sister Betty took on the role of helping to raise their siblings—Rose, James, Debra, Sharon, Wayne, Mary Frances, Tim, and, years later, Keinna. One of June’s proudest moments was building a home from the ground up for his mother.
June lived a life filled with love, responsibility, and service. During Hurricane Katrina, he opened his home to four families, reminding everyone, “We are family, and if I have, you have.” He remained a constant source of strength and support for his loved ones until the day he passed.
Ellis was a hardworking man of many talents—a true jack of all trades. He worked as an auto glass technician, was highly skilled in-home repair, and was always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. He was also known for looking out for his neighbors and taking care of others in that community.
Ellis was a loving father to his daughters, Fenica Stines and Tynekia Porter, and his son, Argel Porter White. For 38 years—20 of them in marriage—he was a devoted partner to Joyce M. Porter.
June was preceded in death by his son, Argel White; parents, Ellis Porter Sr. and Irma Jean Porter; sisters, Rose Porter Taylor and Keinna Porter; and brother, James Porter.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Joyce Porter; daughters, Fenica Stines and Tynekia Porter; grandchildren, Tyree and Tyren Porter and Jai’reon Lewis and his six surviving siblings: Betty Porter Grayson, Debra Porter Chapman (Earl), Sharon Porter Ruffin, Wayne Porter (Angel), Mary Frances Porter Drake (Percy), and Timothy Porter. Mary Robertson, Patrick Stines, Darren Stines of Baton Rouge, La, and Kee Stines of Metairie, LA. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Ellis “June” Porter Jr.—a devoted son, brother, father, husband, and friend—will forever be remembered for his hard work, generosity, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
