Ella Mae Irvin

May 5, 1950 — February 16, 2024

Then God said, “Welcome home, my good and faithful servant.”

Obituary

Ella Mae Andrews Irvin entered this life on May 5, 1950. She was a native and life-long resident of Ascension Parish, by way of Hillaryville, LA. Ella was the third child out of seven born to Millie Andrews White and often considered the boss. She was baptized at Hopeful Triumph Baptist Church in 1974 by the late Reverend James Gipson, Sr. Later, under the leadership of Dr. Sidney J. Tobias, Jr., she served faithfully as a deaconess and greeter until her death. On Friday, February 16, 2024, God reached down from Heaven and plucked his beautiful flower.

At the age of 18, Ella met a young man name Albert Irvin, Jr. On May 3, 1969, the two united in holy matrimony. To this union, three children were born: Laqueta Fanet, Lotacha Janay, and Deamond Cardell.

Ella served in multiple capacities, both inside and outside the church. In church, she was a deaconess, greeter, and a member of the church cleaning committee. She was active with the local AARP. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, and a board member of the Ascension Trace Homeowners’ Association. Ella worked as a lay worker, and then later, supervisor of facilities maintenance at Ascension Hospital, also known as Promise Hospital, for 31 years. She retired on September 30, 2011. After retiring, Ella began to live life to the fullest. She was a Platinum level cruiser, well-accomplished baker, and the neighborhood grandmother, ensuring the neighbors’ kids got on and off the bus safely and that they had a hot meal or snack when they arrived.

Ella leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 54 years, Albert Irvin, Jr., three children (Laqueta, Lotacha (Sam) and Deamond of Hillaryville, LA), two grandchildren (Tevis (Neeka) Irvin of Gonzales, LA, and Trevor (Ashley) Perkins of Houston, TX), four great-granchildren (Tevis Irvin, Jr., Trevor Perkins, Jr., Taylor Irvin, and Asher Perkins), five sisters (Shirley Fenderson and Genevieve “Jenny” White of Los Angeles, CA, Nora and Joan Andrews of Hillaryville, LA, and Margaret White of Geismar, LA), one brother (James White of Hillaryville, LA), three sisters-in law (Betty (Willie) Baxter of Baton Rouge, Ernestine West of Hillaryville, LA, and JoAnn Irvin of Brusly, LA) one brother-in-law (Michael Irvin of Philadelphia , PA), two adoptive children (Billy France of Albin, TX and Vernetta Chatman of Donaldsonville, LA), best girlfriend (Gloristine Claiborne of Hillaryville, LA), one godchild (Pearl Lee Clark) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Millie Andrews White and Rev. Doran White, one brother, Phillip (Geraldine) Stephens, Jr., two sisters-in law (Shirley (Horace) Braxton and Beverly Washington) and one brother-in-law (Floyd (Margaret) Irvin)

But most of all, SERVANT of GOD!

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. Revelation 14:13 KJV
