Reflections of a Blessed Life

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

On April 9, 2026, God dispatched His heavenly angels to bring His daughter Ann Marie Williams home to her final resting place.

Ann was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, born on October 29, 1943, to John W. and Whiley Mae Williams.

Ann attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. She later graduated from McKinley Senior High School. Also, she attended Southern University.

Ann was united in Holy Matrimony to James Williams Jr., on March 21, 1971. Her marriage to her beloved husband spanned forty-nine years.

Ann was a devoted homemaker who poured her heart into creating a loving and nurturing environment for her family. She made the intentional choice to step away from the workplace so she could raise her children and remain actively involved in their school activities. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and welcome. Her children’s friends loved to visit and stay. Ann opened her doors not only to her immediate family but to extended family and friends.

Ann possessed the gift of hospitality. She was an excellent cook, and feeding others was one of the ways she expressed her love. Whether it was a holiday gathering, a special occasion, or a simple moment of fellowship, she was always ready to host. She delighted in seeing people come together, sharing food, laughter, and connection.

Ann was known for her warm and personable spirit. She loved to talk, and she never met a stranger. Anyone who crossed her path quickly became a friend. She had a genuine interest in people, and her kindness made others feel comfortable opening up to her. Her conversations were filled with encouragement.

Ann loved her church deeply. She was an original and faithful member of Community Bible Baptist Church, later, Greater Community Bible Baptist Church, for thirty-eight years, serving with dedication and joy. She became the church’s first Director of Vacation Bible School (VBS) and the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), helping to lay a strong foundation for both ministries. Alongside James, her husband, she co‑founded the Sunday School Breakfast Ministry, ensuring that members were nourished in the body while being nourished in the spirit. Ann also served for many years on the Trustee Board, offering wisdom, insight, and steady support.

During the church’s formative years and for many years thereafter, Ann faithfully served as the Historian and Photographer. She carefully documented significant activities, events, and milestones—both in writing and through photographs—preserving the rich story of church life. She became a trusted source of information whenever the church’s history was needed. In later years, Ann found great joy in leading the Greeting Card Ministry, a work she carried out with remarkable dedication. Each week, she mailed personalized cards to members and extended church family, offering encouragement, comfort, and celebration as the occasion required. The impact of this ministry was profound. Many shared how meaningful her cards were and how blessed they felt to receive such thoughtful expressions of love. Through this ministry, Ann touched countless lives with kindness, compassion, and the heart of Christ. She stood behind the ministries of the church committedly, always willing to lend her hands, her gifts, and her heart to the work of the Lord.

Above all, Ann wholeheartedly loved the Lord. She openly shared her faith, having accepted Christ as her Savior, and she often spoke of her trust and dependence on God. Her relationship with Christ shaped the way she lived and loved. She witnessed to others in her everyday conversations and encouraged those around her to walk closely with the Lord. Her life was a testimony of faith, service, and unwavering devotion to God.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories five children: Marvin Parks (Theresa), Cheryl Williams Ward (Kenny), James “Googie” Williams (Kim), Angela Dunbar, Sabrina Williams and Shantel Dixon, whom she embraced as a daughter, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sisters, Arlene Williams and Lucille Williams, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three brothers, John Williams Jr. (Gracie), Joseph Williams, and Christopher “David” Williams (Charlotte), Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; special aunt, Maebell Nelson, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one sister-in-law, Deborah Ann Martin, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three brothers-in-law, Milton Williams, Toledo, Ohio, Rogers Williams (Sedona) and Leroy Williams Sr. (Doris), Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two lifelong friends, Thelma Curtis and Thelma George, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Williams Jr., parents John W. and Whiley Mae Williams, father and mother in-law, James and Dilsey Williams, two brothers, two sisters, three aunts, eight uncles, four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, two grandsons, Frederick Dunbar II and Micah Williams and granddaughter, Sierra Williams.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. ~Revelation 14:13 KJV~
